Last updated 31 Jan, 2024

The Honourable Steven Marshall MP, Premier of South Australia loves everything about Adelaide, but especially the choice of events over winter. See what his favourite is!

What do you like most about Adelaide?

There’s so much variety in Adelaide, seriously you can do something different every day and you will never get bored. Whether it’s one of our beautiful galleries on North Terrace, going to the fabulous Adelaide Oval or going to one of our great laneway bars or restaurants, the choice is endless.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory of coming to the city?

My earliest memory of coming into the city was going to the Adelaide Zoo which is still absolutely fantastic. Kids love it, adults love it, even grandparents love it! At the moment Light Creatures, a nighttime experience is on, it’s wonderful.

Favourite bar or restaurant in the city?

If you want to go to a bar, you really can’t go past Leigh Street, it’s just bustling. There are so many different options. A new one is Fugazzi, a beautiful restaurant but also a fantastic, stylish bar. It’s the place to be at the moment.

What is your pick of the events and festivals in the city during winter?

There are more than 50 events in Adelaide in winter each year. From the Cabaret Festival, to Illuminate Adelaide right through to the fabulous exhibitions at the Art Gallery of South Australia, I absolutely love it. At the moment, we’ve got Van Gogh Alive which is mesmerising. It’s almost booked out because everybody is getting there. It’s going to tour the country which is fantastic, but starting here is Adelaide.

What do you enjoy about winter in Adelaide?

Adelaide is a city which has seasons. So we have summer, we have autumn, we have spring and we have winter! This winter we have Illuminate Adelaide. This is a brand new festival where you rug up, you put on that jacket, you put on that scarf, you can put on your Port Power beanie (laughs) and you can go out and experience something fantastic in Adelaide. Whether it’s a free event, a ticketed event, the Botanic Gardens is open, the Adelaide Zoo is open and it’s going to be a great, great time.
