The magic of Disney’s Frozen the Musical will leap from the stage to the streets of Adelaide this week, giving lovers of Anna, Elsa and Olaf the chance to keep celebrating the wonders of Frozen all winter.
The Adelaide Economic Development Agency (AEDA) and Disney Theatrical Productions will present Frozen The Musical City Trail, bringing Frozen-inspired desserts, cocktails, floral bouquets and unique experiences to Rundle Mall and the city until mid-August.
The Trail will launch on Thursday, 26 May, with a fresh flower ‘bomb’ of the heritage fountain near Adelaide Arcade in Rundle Mall.
Designed to inspire theatre-goers to explore the city to extend their Frozen The Musical experience, the Frozen The Musical City Trail includes:
- Frozen-inspired cocktails at 2KW, Hotel Indigo’s rooftop Merrymaker bar and Garçon Bleu
- Magical Anna and Elsa-themed desserts from the popup Shibui Dessert Bar under the Gawler Place canopy in Rundle Mall
- Special dinner and accommodation packages at Hotel Indigo and its Market and Meander restaurant
- A display of Anna's iconic coronation gown, featuring the gown from the musical and information on the creative process held exclusively in Adelaide Arcade.
- Special Frozen-style bouquets available for order from bloombarflowers.com
- Pop-up glitter bar for Frozen-inspired makeovers under the Gawler Place Canopy (one-day only – Friday 27 May, 5pm-7pm). Shoppers can get their face ‘glittered’ with Frozen-inspired designs.
- Adelaide Festival Centre’s iconic Festival Theatre shells will freeze over on Sunday, 29 May, as part of a Frozen lighting display created by Electric Canvas.
Lord Mayor of Adelaide Sandy Verschoor is thrilled to welcome Frozen the Musical to Adelaide – the first major musical to be staged at the Adelaide Festival Theatre since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
“When tickets went on sale, Frozen the Musical recorded the highest single day of ticket sales for any musical at the Adelaide Festival Centre, it was a sign of the story’s incredible popularity but also our desire to return to the theatre,” the Lord Mayor says.
“Given that demand, we have partnered with a range of popular city businesses to create the Frozen City Trail that keep the magic of Frozen alive and will inspire theatre-goers to enjoy dinner, drinks and dessert before or after the show, or plan a return visit to the city to experience more Frozen magic.”
AEDA Managing Director Ian Hill says the CBD will not be short of activations when Frozen the Musical comes to town, and is proud to support traders in the City Trail.
“There’ll be lots to see and do, from the flower bomb of the fountain near Adelaide Arcade this week, to visiting the traditional Norwegian dress worn on-stage by Anna. This beautiful gown was handmade in Sydney and took more than 100 hours to produce,” Mr Hill says.
“You can also take a picture with the decals of your favourite characters scattered around town and sample the wonderful Frozen treats on offer and support our city traders.”
Studio Botanic head designer and director Nadia Travaglini said the flower installation took more than 20 hours to create, with three designers at the helm.
Ms Travaglini says the Frozen theme of sisterhood resonates with her, and has been a "common thread" her entire life.
"Sisterhood, community driven or by blood, is a thread throughout every avenue of my life. Without my sisters, I do not know where I’d be," Ms Travaglini says.
"Echoing the sentiments of Elsa and Anna. We hold each other up, forgive each other of our differences, we guide and protect each other, and remind
each other to be bold, strong and courageous. I continue this legacy through my two young sons, of which Frozen is a household regular feature."
Based on the 2013 animated film, the stage adaptation of Frozen opened on Broadway in 2018 and grossed more than $150m at the box office.
It features 12 new songs from the film’s original Academy Award-winning composers, Kristen Anderson Lopez and Robert Lopez.
