FASHION has taken over the city after ADL Fashion Week kicked off in style at Fishbank today.

More than 100 people packed the venue — which was recently awarded Best Seafood Restaurant at the 2022 Restaurant & Catering Hostplus Awards for Excellence — to launch the four-day event that celebrates the fabric of fashion in the city.

ADL Fashion Week boasts a specially curated program of unique experiences, exciting pop-ups, offers, stylish in-store appearances and Adelaide's Biggest Shopping Event.

City of Adelaide Chief Executive Officer Clare Mockler said the council had a long and proud history of supporting fashion in the city, which included promoting local retailers.

She said ADL Fashion Week would be an opportunity to experience Adelaide as a world-renowned city of creativity, home to extraordinary designers, artists, makers and festivals.

"We are the place to experience the best of fashion, with fantastic shopping precincts, stores and brands, as well as hubs for designers and fashion business owners throughout the city," the Chief Executive Officer said.

"We have a proud legacy of producing iconic designers ... and this festival is an opportunity to showcase their incredible skill and innovation, while also supporting emerging designers, who are the next generation of our fashion industry ... with a platform to take their career to new heights.

"It will also support our retail sector and lay the foundation for what we hope will become a national event on the fashion industry’s calendar."

ADL Fashion Week includes Adelaide's Biggest Shopping Event in Rundle Mall and Rundle Street where retailers will offer discounts and instore experiences from Friday 7 - Sunday 9 October.

Shoppers can receive a special gift at the Adelaide Fashion Week Resort Lounge in Gawler Place for spending more than $150 in the precinct.

On Saturday, more than 40 emerging and leading South Australian designers including Paolo Sebastian, Tiff Manuell, Alexis George and Couture + Love + Madness will take to the runway at The Art of Fashion event.

"This weekend is your opportunity to experience Adelaide as a world-renowned city of creativity - home to extraordinary designers, artists, makers and festivals," the Chief Executive Officer said.

"From home-grown designers to some of the world’s most iconic brands, it can all be discovered and shopped in Adelaide, and I hope you enjoy what is the first of many Adelaide Fashion Week festivals to come."

Adelaide businesses Clip Joint Salons, Fishbank and Media Makeup Academy, as well as SA Style magazine sponsored the event.
