10GA network gives mâché a competitive advantage

When you have 12 different teams and 40 people working in one office space, it is important the internet is fast and secure to keep up with all the different requirements.

mâché is a coworking space on Pulteney Street designed and curated for inspiration, connection and productivity. It also features a wellbeing studio, where Fresh Sprouts and other teachers run yoga, pilates, mum and bubs and restorative classes.

From videographers and designers, to architects, medical technology professionals and humanitarian consultants, there are a wide range of businesses that work at mâché – many of which require large uploads using cloud technology as part of their day-to-day work.

That was why it was an easy choice for mâché co-founder and chief executive officer Daniels Langeberg to switch to the fibre optic network of Ten Gigabit Adelaide.

“All of the businesses have different requirements, but there are basic things that we all need like power and shelter and in this day and age having a fast, secure internet connection is definitely a basic requirement,” Daniels said.

“That’s why we made the switch to Ten Gigabit Adelaide because we weren’t getting consistent and secure internet from our other providers.

“Everyone is working on the cloud and we have people like videographers that will be downloading and uploading files, architects that are working in cloud-based environments designing in real time with other team members across the country, sometimes across the globe.

“Video conferencing and having that consistent uplink is another thing you need that real time bandwidth for, along with massive uploads of files and programs and the like.

“It’s just really about consistency and knowing that when we need to throttle up, we have that bandwidth to do it.”

The theory behind mâché is to get likeminded people under the same roof, sharing services so they can use the space professionally but also cost effectively.

Daniels and his team have curated a community of likeminded people that allows them to connect when they aren’t working, plus they can also win work for each other.

With Daniels busy running mâché as well as EcoCaddy – a company providing eco-friendly passenger transportation, tourism and delivery services and compelling outdoor media in Adelaide also based at mâché – minimising any issues at the coworking space is a must and now, with Ten Gigabit Adelaide, the internet problems are behind them.

Daniels said when they used a previous supplier, the feedback was always around ‘the internet running slow’.

“It was Wi-Fi based and if it was raining or there was a strong wind, it would actually affect the internet speed,” he said.

“The biggest thing now is that there have been no complaints.

“The catalyst for us signing up to the network was a nightmare couples of days where one business had a deadline with a 100GB upload that failed three times due to the internet dropping out and we thought ‘this isn’t professional’ so we looked at Ten Gigabit Adelaide.

“To be connected to optical fibre straight into the line, right out the front of our place, there’s definitely a noticeable difference.”

A passionate Adelaidean, what Daniels likes best about the Ten Gigabit network is that it not only gives mâché a competitive advantage, but also the city as a whole.

“It gives us a competitive advantage to spaces that are outside the city in terms of how we differentiate from coworking spaces or service offices – we can actually offer something that they don’t have access to so that is quite competitive, particularly for those that really need that speed to do what they do and need that stability,” Daniels said.

“To have the City of Adelaide differentiate itself from the suburbs and other regions is great and it is plays like this which really do it.

“The heart needs to be effective and the heart needs the cutting edge stuff – from technology to policy to other forms of infrastructure.

“To see the City of Adelaide invest in Ten Gigabit and bear some of the costs so that organisations like mâché can actually afford it is great – we are a small operator so that is a really positive thing.”
