SALA 2026 Exhibition - Where the Light Falls

Light is endlessly variable. It shifts with the time of day, the angle of a lens, the texture of a surface, or the pigment in a brushstroke. It can be chased, captured, manipulated, layered, and it will still surprise you. Colour is light interpreted by materials, surfaces, and the extraordinary complexity of human perception. No two people see it in quite the same way.

The artists in Where The Light Falls each have a distinct relationship with light and colour in their practice. Together their work forms a conversation about what light does, aesthetically and symbolically.

Who is given the spotlight, and whose work reaches gallery walls, reflects the decisions, structures, and biases of institutions that have long left many artists in the shadows. But step inside the work itself, and the dynamic shifts. There, it is the artist who controls what they want and the audience to see, what the eye is drawn to, and where the light falls.

This exhibition is proudly part of SALA Festival 2026, 1 to 31 August.

The exhibition is available to view during centre opening hours Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm (please contact the Community Centre in advance for access availability to the exhibition).
