Tikari Rigney

Soulful home with Poet in Residence Tikari Rigney

This residency is in response to environment, displacement, the feeling of home or lack thereof in your own body, with people around you, places and spaces. In response to what is going on in the world and in my own little world. The exhale of safety and warmth that comes from a place or person that creates an idea of ‘home’ is like no other. Exploring the ‘home’ that the city library will become for me over the month of May and its potential to feel like home for so many.

Workshop 1: for someone to love the whole you is to…

Wednesday 8 May 5:30 – 6:30pm

We will come together to have a yarn about the ‘how to be loved’ theme for the workshop. Brainstorming key language around what this means to us and do poetry writing activities with guidance from me, Tikari.

Workshop 2: home is more than a place, it's a feeling

Wednesday 15 May 5:30 – 6:30pm

We will come together to have a yarn about the ‘home’ theme for the workshop. Brainstorming key language around what this means to us and do poetry writing activities with guidance from me, Tikari. We will also bring in to share sources that inspire us which could include images, music, writing, poetry etc.

Workshop 3: the many versions of you

Thursday 23 May 4:30 – 5:30pm

We will come together to have a yarn about the ‘versions of you’ theme for the workshop. We will spend time responding to writing prompts and completing a collaborative piece. Brainstorming key language around what this means to us and do poetry writing activities with guidance from me, Tikari.

Workshop 4: seasons change and so do you

Wednesday 29 May 5:30 – 6:30pm
We will come together to have a yarn about the ‘seasons change’ theme for the workshop. There will be reflection and sharing time in relation to the previous workshops, reading inspiring material and our own poems we’ve created.

Anonymous Thoughts Box

Tikari's Soulful Home residency invites you to think about the following question and respond with some thoughts or feelings. This will remain anonymous but will form part of the poems, discussions and workshops for the residency.

week 1: what does feeling deeply loved look and feel like to you?

week 2: who feels like home to you?

week 3: what words would you say to the person you used to be

week 4: what have you learnt from the different seasons of your life?
