SALA 2026 Exhibition - MeeWee Collection
Alexandrina's MeeWee collection explores Ngarrindjeri spirituality, healing, ancestry, culture, resilience, and connection through contemporary traditional art.
The four cornerstones of the MeeWee Collection are strength, ownership, innovation and intelligence. I created the MeeWee Collection to raise awareness of mental health therapy, mindfulness therapy and self-healing through expressing MeeWee.
Spending time on my Ngarrindjeri land grounds me. It brings clarity, focus, fresh air, and peace. "Ngarrindjeri" means "belonging to" and this sense of belonging strengthens my connection to MeeWee, Thulang and Ruwe (Country). Through this connection, I find my inner MeeWee. I take ownership of it. When MeeWee is alive within me, I can create new ideas and express deeper intelligence through my art.
Each piece is a reflection of these values and a call to raise awareness around mental health, mindfulness, and self-healing through cultural expression.
As MeeWee rubs off from a Ngarrindjeri descent, it is passed down in DNA. From the stories that have been passed down from generation to generation I am able to vision those stories of my Ruwe. By envisioning helps explore the mind and shows innovation. Painting 'Kullindjeriu Ruwe' and 'Ramindjeri Ruwe' is an essence of belonging to. It provides me with a vision from when I am away from Ngarrindjeri Ruwe, this provides me with strength to stay focused and find new innovations
Through my art I express my Ngarrindjeri spiritual heart my MeeWee, and to capture my MeeWee on canvas. By doing this I am preserving my MeeWee to help teach others how to express your own MeeWee. By acknowledging our MeeWee we are strong at heart and soul.
The exhibition paintings embody "belonging to," giving me the strength and inspiration to create even when I’m far from Ngarrindjeri Ruwe.
Through my art, I express my spiritual heart my MeeWee onto canvas. This is how I preserve our culture, and to teach others to explore and embrace their own MeeWee. When we connect with our spiritual heart, we are strong in both body and soul.
