A few paces up from the corner of Leigh and Hindley Street is the slightly larger than life statue of Roy 'Mo' Rene, who in the early 1900s became a much larger than life stage and radio comedian. The Australian Entertainment Industries annual 'Mo Award' for excellence in performance is named after him.

The figure faces his birthplace and honours his position as a true icon of Australian culture. Artist Robert Hannaford AM spent weeks researching the pose and dress of Rene in the guise of his famous stage character Mo McCackie.

The statue was unveiled during the 2010 Adelaide Festival, and truly captures the stance and temperament of this Australian legend.
