Kaurna meyunna, Kaurna yerta tampendi

Eileen Kaparny, Tony Rosella, and Darren Siwes

Kaurna meyunna, Kaurna yerta tampendi is a name that attributes the recognition of Kaurna people on Kaurna land. This sculptural work offers an invitation into Kaurna history and cultural elements of the sculpture consist of the Karuna shield surrounded by Tarnda Karinga (Red Kangaroo Rock), Tjillbruke (Ibis man), Ngangkiparringga (women’s river) and Yurrilda (dreaming story of the Mt Lofty Ranges). The ceramic and slate elements symbolise continuing Kaurna traditions, laws, beliefs, language and social structure. The water surround draws us into the interconnection between the land and its cosmology. The sculpture is located in the main entrance of the Adelaide Festival Centre.
