The Memorial Garden was created in remembrance of those who died in World War One. Initiated by the women of South Australia, it is a reminder of the grief so many experienced as a result of the loss of their loved ones during the war. The Garden was designed by Herbert Baker, in conjunction with Sir Reginald Blomfield and Sir Edwin Lutyens. Sir Reginald Blomfield designed the Cross of Sacrifice. The Stone of Remembrance is from the design by Sir Edwin Lutyens. The Cross of Sacrifice and Stone of Remembrance are important as places highly valued by the community for their role as memorials, and as the site now used for Anzac Day services in Adelaide.
