Experience luxury at Adelaide’s newest five-star hotel

Adelaide’s first internationally recognised five-star hotel in over 30 years opened on Currie Street today, with the launch of Sofitel Adelaide.

The first Sofitel in Adelaide and only the seventh in Australia, Sofitel blends French elegance and a real passion for hospitality with the best of local culture, the best of South Australia.

There are three quintessential South Australian themes woven into the interiors – our city of churches, art and culture and our wine.

Sofitel Adelaide certainly embraces local culture and encourages guests to ‘live the French way’.

The exquisite hotel has been brought to Adelaide by a proud, second-generation family, the Palumbo’s.

Along with boosting the tourism sector, the Palumbo’s have created more than 1000 constructions jobs in South Australia with this project, while over 100 people now have employment in the CBD with the Sofitel opening.

Daniel Palumbo said it was truly heart-warming to announce the hotel with strong SA themes is now open after many years of hard work.

“The inspiration for this hotel really started from the location that we're standing on – the site borders the education precinct, the business precinct, we are sited close to the riverbank and to Light Square,” Mr Palumbo said.

“All these layers and the fabric of our city we wanted to bring together into the interior design and this building, standing out in the city skyline, is a place where we can come together.

“By using the curves of the Torrens River and adding the colour red to represent the wonderful wine in our South Australian regions, the inspiration for lobby chandelier was imagined and the proximity to Light Square and inspired by Colonel William Light, that light was used in a design sense throughout the hotel.

“I'm proud of what we have delivered, I look forward to this new chapter and I hope people stay with us, come on a journey of discovery and enjoy yourself at Sofitel Adelaide.”
