Delicious businesses paying it forward

Last updated 19 June, 2020

Despite the hospitality industry facing a myriad of battles, the local businesses below have been paying it forward as a show of gratitude to our essential workers or to assist those in need. They are all still operating and hawking their delicious wares, so next time your tummy grumbles, show them a little love!

Sparkke at the Whitmore

317 Morphett St, Adelaide SA 5000

Social consciousness has always been the beating heart of Sparkke. What started as a female-driven beverage brand quickly evolved into a safe haven for the community – with an impeccable menu and wine list.

With shutdown imminent, the crew closed the premise with plans to launch their takeaway and delivery options. A unanimous team decision was made to feed the appetites and hearts of Adelaide’s essential healthcare workers on 20 March, delivering over 250 meals of Head Chef Emma McCaskill’s most renowned dishes.

Emma McCaskill has now reimagined the menu with all the comfort foods a lonely iso-heart could desire. You can order tasty treats such as Szechuan pork dumplings and chicken banana blossom salads, as well as a tempting range of some of the best bevvies on offer. Both takeaway and delivery options are available.

Plus 82 Pocha

Shop 3, 25 Grenfell Street Adelaide 5000

Plus 82 Pocha has won the hearts and tummies of Adelaide with their infamous ‘KFC’ – Korean fried chicken, and their latest act of kindness.

Chef Terry Hwang and the team whipped up 20 special meals of stir fried vegetables, traditional Korean chicken, sweet soy sauce and rice before hand delivering it to those sleeping rough around the Grenfell Street eatery. Despite facing their own challenges, which are prevalent throughout the hospitality industry currently, Terry saw this an opportune time to give back.

“Our business exists due to support from the community which is why we wanted to give something back where we could,” said Terry.

‘82’ is an ode to Korea’s international country code while pocha is short for pojangmacha, late night street stalls. Plus 82 POCHA have pulled together a curated menu which allows you to enjoy classic Korean flavours with contemporary twists. Indulge in budae jiggae, a special Korean kim chi stew laden with dumplings and goodies, spicy grilled pork belly, and the soul soothing +82 fries. Add soju for the perfect night in. Call (08) 8212 8274 for pick up or order online below.
