City streets will be up in lights when Illuminate Adelaide puts the CBD in the spotlight this July.
Illuminate Adelaide unveiled its programme for its winter 2022 festival, which includes a range of experiences, interactions and performances that showcase the convergence of art and technology.
Among its star attractions is Ouchhh Studio’s multisensory Wisdom of AI Light (pictured above) exhibition in the East End that takes viewers on a journey through art and science.
Illuminate Adelaide co-founder and creative director Lee Cumberlidge said a “massive pavilion” of about 1000sq m would be built to host the attraction.
“The very centre of our program this year is a huge exhibition by Ouchhh Studio from Istanbul, who are at the forefront of developing experiences and artwork driven by artificial intelligence,” said Mr Cumberlidge said.
“The projections will completely envelop the audience …this work is completely incredible.
“If people saw Van Gough Alive in our program last year, we will be taking that immersive (style) exhibition to the next level.”
Other CBD events include the popular Light Cycles at the Adelaide Botanic Garden, the city-wide centrepiece City Lights and Light Creatures at the Adelaide Zoo after dark.
City Lights will have a new series of immersive installations, artworks and large-scale activations that will turn Adelaide’s most iconic streetscapes in the north, east and west precincts into works of art.
People can wander through a playground of giant seesaws, dance beneath laser sensors, see projections on iconic North Tce buildings, stumble across luminescent pools and get lost in optical illusions.
Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison said South Australians should head to the CBD for the free City Lights event, that runs from 15-31 July.
“I encourage all South Australians to rally their family and friends this winter, come to our beautiful city over the month of July, buy a ticket to an experience and walk the free City Lights program,” the Minister said.
Illuminate Adelaide injected more than $30 million into the South Australian economy in 2021.
Illuminate Adelaide runs from 1-31 July.
