To celebrate 10 years in Rundle Mall, Experience Adelaide sat down with owner and founder Lauren to learn more about the store’s rich history.
The store first launched in 2014 with the help of Renew Adelaide in Charles Street Plaza. "There wasn't a market-style concept in Rundle Mall at the time, and that's what inspired me to open Have You Met Charlie?" says Lauren. After a stint in Charles Street, the store continued to flourish and moved to a couple more locations before opening a permanent store in Adelaide Arcade.
What makes the store so popular, alongside the great vibe and shopping experience brought by Lauren and her staff, is its affordability, with items on average priced between $8 - $55. Lauren tells Experience Adelaide "the store sees a range of shoppers, from small children wanting a new colourful accessory, to grandparents shopping for special occasions, and everyone in between".
The store is also big on supporting local, with at least 50% of stock being from local South Australian brands and makers, including Mintcloud, Lauren’s very own jewellery line which she launched around the same time as opening the store. Stock is rotated seasonally and curated by store staff, resulting in a range of artists and makers having their items showcased and available for purchase.
One of the things Lauren loves most about running her store is the loyal fanbase that has built up over the years, with many customers coming back time and time again. Some even dating back to when the store first opened its doors 10 years ago! What keeps customers coming back is the personalised shopping experience Lauren and her team have created, with staff taking extra care to help customers select the perfect gift and hosting in-store events, including jewellery making workshops where craft enthusiasts can have a go at making a set of earrings that they can take home.
