The Cover Drive

Robert Hannaford AM

Internationally recognised South Australian artist Robert Hannaford AM was commissioned to create a sculpture of one of Australia’s greatest sporting heroes Sir Donald Bradman.

As a cricketing icon, the positioning of The Cover Drive (also referred to as The Don), adjacent to the Victor Richardson Gates to the Adelaide Oval and in view of St Peter’s Cathedral, is one of high profile and recognises his importance as the greatest batsman in the history of cricket.

Sir Donald Bradman expressed a desire that he should be depicted in full cricket attire and to be shown in driving stance, awaiting the approach.
