Time | Space
Peter Walker
Inspired by the visionary legacy of John Ednie Brown’s planting of the Elm Carriageway, Time | Space is an artwork that acknowledges the Park Lands' history, referencing cultural influences, significant events, and natural features of this place.
On the edge of Carriageway Park/ Tuthangga (Park 17) Young Living symbolizes growth and transformation, inviting the public to witness the organic fusion of three dwarf lemon-scented eucalyptus (Corymbia citriodora scentuous) saplings over time. The surrounding Seed Discs highlight native grass seeds, paying homage to the land's endemic flora.
Across the road in Peppermint Park / Wita Wirra (Park 18) Windmill bridges cultural narratives, emphasizing the importance of regeneration and cultural symbiosis. The reclaimed Jarrah 'leaf blades' of the 6-meter-high windmill grass are blackened to reference the Kaurna cultural burning projects held in nearby Park Lands and subsequent regeneration of grasses. The use of Shou Sugi Ban, a traditional Japanese process that blackens wood.
