The Couple

Berend Vand Der Struik

The Couple is a sculpture by Dutch immigrant Berend van der Struik using Maroubra sandstone and was one of the first features installed in the redesigned park. Depicting two early settlers, a man and a women caused controversy when unveiled in 1962 due to its then avant garde modernist simplified form. It is now a favoured location for weddings in Veale Gardens.
