The Angels Lane
CAPITAL WASTE and Vans the Omega
This artwork is part of the City of Music Laneway Project to celebrate The Angels Lane.
Visitors to The Angels Lane will discover four artworks by the artist team CAPITAL WASTE (Liam Somerville) and Vans the Omega (Joel Van Moore). Two murals, a series of light boxes, and gobo light projections, the experience is electrifying both day and night. Combined, these works celebrate the band’s legacy, theatrical stage presence and revolutionary sound.
“It’s an honour to reunite with The Angels again after shooting their documentary Kickin’ Down The Door in 2022. As Director of Photography on the film I was blessed to hear first-hand tales from their 50 years of writing, recording and performing music. To honour their legacy and enormous contributions to Australian rock music I asked legendary artist VANS THE OMEGA to collaborate on the project and paint the two murals in the laneway. Our work references the iconic imagery of The Angels including their theatrical approach to onstage lighting, classic album covers and onstage antics. We also reference the layered tour posters pasted on pub walls all over the country, symbolic of their relentless interstate gigging and commitment to their fans worldwide.”
