Sir Walter Hughes was one of the founders of the University of Adelaide and first donor. Created by Queen Victoria's favourite sculptor Francis Williamson and funded by Hughes nephews this statue displays Hughes in a seated relaxed pose siting on the large block of Murray Bridge granite outside the Mitchell building.
