Kangaroos

Allan Sumner

Allan Sumner is a Ngarrindjeri, Kaurna and Yankunytjatjara artist. His red kangaroo sculptures are situated at the crest of the hill in Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi (Park 16). Adelaide is located on the land of the Kaurna people, with many of the traditional place names referencing the Red Kangaroo dreaming. The words on the sculptures come from Kaurna words for the red kangaroo:

  • Kurlu means female red kangaroo
  • Tarnta means male red kangaroo
  • Idla means joey or baby kangaroo
