Black Horse Hotel, Leigh Street, 1885

Photo taken 30 December 1884

State Library Catalogue Reference: B 21181

'The Black Horse Hotel, popular in the 1880's, licensed to one James Wilde in 1848, appears to have opened in 1847 as 'The Foresters'. The name was changed a year later to retain the name 'Black Horse' until it was last licensed in 1906. As a symbol of its popularity, a good 'ordinary' was provided at 1 p.m. ... They were also very pound of the stabling.'

This historical sketch is number five in a series of Early Inns, presented for your interest by the brewers of Nathan Beer
