Piltawodli Memorial

Silvio Apponyi

The Piltawodli Memorial is a prominent memorial to the Piltawodli encampment, school and buildings. Piltawodli is a Kaurna word meaning 'possum place' arising from the name 'pilta' (possum) and 'wodli' (house or home). The memorial consists of 10 stones set in blue metal carrying various plaques and three sculptural pieces by Silvio Apponyi featuring two small frogs and life size Ring-tailed possum. It was erected by the South Australian ‘Bringing them Home’ Committee on 26 May 2000 in association with the Lutheran Church, on the 2nd anniversary of the National Sorry Day.
