Currie Chambers at 41-49 Currie Street was built in 1881 as Barnard Chambers. It was a large set of offices grouped around a widely arched entrance which led to a horse auction yard.

For many years it was a dance studio for Mrs WA Wood, whose name features on the fan-shaped window over the entrance. It was also the premises of Frank Woodcock, Matthews and Co. Fertilisers, Remington College, and was used by the nearby Adelaide Steamship Company.

Seen hereon 22 February 1954, the only sign reads 'Help Australia's progress BUY BONDS'. The only tenant was the Commonwealth Department of Works employment section. The building was demolished in 1960.
