Thanks to the internet, there are tons of ways we can stay in touch, make new friends, and learn new skills from home. Here are some of these wonderful online communities we've discovered.

The Adelaide Bear Hunt Group began with the simple idea of keeping kids (and their parents) active during this time - by going on a teddy bear hunt! This humble little group of over 14,000 members now grew quickly, as neighbourhoods came together to put a bear (or two) up in their home for neighbourhood kids to find. It’s a fun little game, and adds a lovely element of surprise on your walks with the kids.

Getting dressed up doesn't need to be for a special occasion! Bin Isolation Outing is a Facebook Group who share images of the fabulous outfits they wear to take out their bins. This little movement has become global news and is guaranteed to make you smile.
Garden Share Adelaide
Looking to start growing your own produce or improving your gardening skills? The Garden Share Adelaide Facebook Group is a great community-run online space to connect with other gardeners around South Australia. Here you can learn about the latest pest in your garden, what’s the best fruit or vegetable to grow this season, or swap seeds and plants (at a safe distance, of course).

Missing playgroup IRL (in real life)? The Playgroup at Home Facebook Group may just be the space for you. A community place space for families to get and share ideas for play. This includes craft, imaginative, physical play, sensory play, outdoor play, literacy and numeracy. The group hopes to create a community that belongs to families, by providing a sense of belonging, virtually.

The Adelaide Sustainability Association of the University of Adelaide hosts a Sustainable Sunday event virtually each week. Everyone is encouraged to dress up, pack a picnic, and join the group over live stream to soak up the sun and chat at a socially appropriate distance! Each session will also have various sustainability focussed activities, from film nights, book clubs, home DIYs, to quizzes and even gardening projects.
Hand Knitters Guild of SA
Got some extra time on your hands? Then perhaps it’s time to take up knitting! The Hand Knitters Guild of SA is a great community of knitters sharing this long loved skill. The supportive community is great for beginners, and even experienced knitters. Look out for free patterns shared by its members!
