Inaugural WellFest Adelaide to get the city moving

Last updated 31 Jan, 2024

Mark your diaries, there’s a new entry to the Festival State’s calendar – WellFest Adelaide, a celebration of all things health and wellbeing coming to the city next month.

With a range of FREE headline events, WellFest Adelaide will be held over three weekends in the city from October 15-31.

Created and delivered through the Adelaide Economic Development Agency (AEDA), highlights of WellFest Adelaide include:

  • Wellness Squared – held over three Sundays, a curated program of sessions, activities and presentations designed to help South Australians reconnect and recharge in the city with fitness and wellbeing activities including yoga and pilates, cooking and gardening demonstrations and presentations on nutrition and keeping a positive mindset.
  • Hounds on Hutt – Victoria Park/Pakapakanthi and Hutt Street will be turned into pooch playgrounds to encourage social connection outdoors for dogs and their owners and families on Saturday 23 October.

Supporting activities and sessions will be run by local businesses including:

  • Sprout – a hands-on, healthy cooking school established by former MasterChef contestant Callum Hann and dietitian Themis Chryssidis
  • Healthy Minds – the world’s first psychological skills program designed to prevent the onset of depression and anxiety, run by South Australian psychologist Dr Tom Nehmy and Jodi Lee Foundation founder Nick Lee
  • Further exciting activities will be announced in coming weeks…

While admission is FREE to most outdoor activities, due to contact tracing requirements tickets must be booked for some sessions. Visit wellfest.com.au to book tickets and view the full program.

Well Fest hero with dates

Nikki Govan, chair of AEDA, said the new festival would capitalise on the wellbeing sector’s strong growth to attract visitors into the heart of the city.

“The need to manage our physical and emotional health and wellbeing has never been more top of mind due to the impact of the pandemic,” Ms Govan said.

“Wellness encompasses so many activities that get us moving and improve our mindset, from high impact, high intensity fitness to gentle yoga, meditation and recognising the many benefits gardening offers. Of course, wellbeing isn’t just about being physically active, it’s also about a healthy diet and a strong and resilient mindset.

“WellFest Adelaide will celebrate healthy minds and bodies in an event the likes of which South Australia has never seen before. It will encourage people to visit the city and rediscover our beautiful parks and squares and support city businesses who have been hit hard by border closures and COVID-19 restrictions.

“All of the activities are presented by local businesses and cater to all ages, ability levels and interests.

“WellFest Adelaide will offer a range of vibrant outdoor experiences that will bring South Australians together in Australia’s most liveable city to see and do something new and go home feeling good.”

WellFest Adelaide complements the City of Adelaide’s Wellbeing Month in October, which spans a range of activities across the entire month including:

  • Mental Health Awareness Week
  • Walktober
  • Nutrition Week
  • Nature Festival
  • Unity Week

WellFest Adelaide follows the success of AEDA’s 2021 visitor campaigns including Adelaide’s Long Lunch and Dinner’s On Us dining vouchers to support CBD and North Adelaide hospitality and experience operators, and the Hit the Town campaign promoting more than 50 events, performances and festivals occurring in the city over winter.
