Last updated 07 Feb, 2024

Spend a day with your sweetheart doing something a bit different in the city. Let Experience Adelaide to all the thinking with these fun ideas!

Classic couples

If a traditional restaurant date for two is your plan, you’ll find loads of options in the city. We’re spoilt for choice with fresh local produce served in all kinds of environments, from hip bars to more formal settings with linen tablecloths. Peruse our extensive guide to city eats and drinks. Whether you go high-end with a degustation or share a bowl of pho, remember it’s spending time together that’s key.

A perfect picnic

Make the most of our glorious summer evenings and roll out a rug in the Park Lands with a fresh produce spread from the Adelaide Central Market. You can’t go wrong with fresh fruit, sliced charcuterie, nuts, cheese, pate and a crunchy baguette. Mix in a few exotic delights from the Market’s range of specialist shops and don’t forget something sweet for after.

Party at the Fringe

If a romantic candlelit dinner for two isn’t for you, head to the Adelaide Fringe instead. With hundreds of shows on offer, you can choose comedy, cabaret, music, theatre…whatever suits your tastes. For new couples, this option ensures you have lots to talk about over a post-show drink or supper at East End Unleashed, the street party on Rundle Street every Thursday to Sunday night during the Fringe.

Get inspired

Share dumplings with your darling in Chinatown then wander hand-in-hand to MOD. on North Terrace for a wander through Uni SA’s museum of discovery. Open until 8pm on Fridays. Looking for something more traditional? Admire paintings and sculptures of love throughout the ages at the Art Gallery of South Australia or explore any one of the many galleries and museums in Adelaide.

Side by side cycling

Pump up the tyres and get back to nature with a bike ride together in Adelaide’s Park Lands. For something different, follow our Bike Art Trail or check out the Park Lands Trail map to choose where you’d like to explore. No bikes? No worries. A stroll can be equally as peaceful and along the River Torrens / Karrawirra is a favourite for romantics.

Paddle boat adventures

Sure, Venice has gondolas, but Adelaide has Captain Jolley’s Paddle Boats. New couples can use up some of that nervous energy and head out for a jaunt around the Torrens. You won’t be able to wipe the smile from your face while you’re pushing the pedals trying to avoid being sprayed by the fountain! These tours book up quickly so get in fast – or delay celebrations to a less busy day.

Sweets for your sweet

You can’t go wrong if good quality chocolate is involved. Find some of Adelaide’s finest chocolate, Haigh’s of course, at Beehive Corner, Adelaide Arcade or Adelaide Central Market Arcade to share with your special someone. If you’re a whiz in the kitchen, whip up an irresistible dessert like these Haigh’s chocolate self-saucing puddings. Then again, this chocolate is so good, you could present their plain buttons to your love and you’d still be in the good books.
