Bars of Adelaide

Last updated 21 July, 2020

Surrounded by wineries producing world-class wines, and artisan beer and spirit producers, it’s no wonder the Adelaide bar scene is burgeoning. Whether you’re after a quiet tipple, a celebratory cocktail, bar hopping with your buddies or just to watch sport, there’s a bar near-by to suit you.

Small bars in lively laneways

Adelaide has a range of small bars that are big on atmosphere. One of the first to open New Orleans inspired NOLA, who specialises in craft beers and whiskey.

The laneways of Adelaide come alive after dark when joints like Proof Bar in Anster Street start pumping. Leigh Street is home to small bars like Pink Moon Saloon and Udaberri in Leigh Street. One street over is Peel Street, home to Alfred’s and La Moka to name but a few.

Hidden bars

Sometimes, discovering a new venue can be half the fun.

Hidden downstairs in Lindes Lane you’ll find The Barlow Room, a cozy bar with a vintage vibe. Maybe Mae in Peel Street is worth seeking out – it won the South Australian 2017 Cocktail Bar of the Year.

Cocktails bars and spirits

Forget the sleazy cocktail bars with Tom Cruise- Adelaide’s cocktail bars are laid back and cool.

For a touch of old-school class, visit Apothecary 1878 in Hindley Street or the spirit-filled Mr Goodbar in Union Street.

Microbreweries and distilleries

Crafting beer in the CBD? Yep. At Lady Burra Brewhouse they produce their own small batch and seasonal beers on-site. No need for a preservative in these fresh brews! Meanwhile, over at Prohibition Liquor Co they are distilling their own small batch gin. With some amazing flavours, we suggest you try their tasting flights.

Something corporate

Whether you’re after a place to celebrate a deal, or just loosen the tie after a long day in the office, head over to The Collins Bar in the Hilton Hotel,  The Atrium Bar at The InterContinental or The Gallery in Waymouth Street.

Sports bars and old fashioned pubs

Sometimes you just want to grab a counter meal (served over the bar, rather than in a dining room) and watch sport on the big screen.

You’ll be at home at The Original Coopers Alehouse in Pulteney Street, The Stag Public House on Rundle Street, or the Crown and Anchor on Grenfell Street.
